PROJECT INFO
The design aims to enrich and give more personality to the façade of the Coca Cola factory in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The intervention had to be cost-effective and sustainable: this led up to consider the use of recycled materials. Visiting the site, it is hard not to notice countless red crates ready to contain the Coca Cola bottles, stacked as if they were buildings themselves. So, the idea was to cut them and put them back together as cladding panels, that were hanged onto the concrete façade. By repurposing such an unorthodox element into building materials, both a highly effective and aesthetically pleasing solution was provided.
To further emphasize the brand image, three large metal structures welded by hand, have been fixed to the central part of the main façade. On each one of them, painted metal sheets cut in the shape of iconic Coca Cola’s silhouette, were anchored over the net.
Using metal structures not only responds to the need for a simple and fast execution but also contributes to highlighting the strong industrial character of the project.
